“中國古代經(jīng)典英譯本匯釋匯校”中期檢查情況

一、研究進(jìn)展情況

一、學(xué)術(shù)會議

(一)2011年1月23日至25日,本課題在深圳召開開題論證會。中國人民大學(xué)楊慧林教授、耿幼壯教授,北京師范大學(xué)方維規(guī)教授,北京大學(xué)劉樹森教授,香港中文大學(xué)李熾昌(Archie Lee)教授,香港浸會大學(xué)費(fèi)樂仁(Lauren Pfister)教授,牛津大學(xué)羅伯特?恰德(Robert Chard)教授受聘擔(dān)任本課題學(xué)術(shù)委員并共同確定了以下事項(xiàng)。

1、吸收部分教師、博士生和博士后研究人員參與研究工作,包括教師李麗琴(人大)、管恩森(山東大學(xué)),以及本課題負(fù)責(zé)人指導(dǎo)的博士生邱業(yè)祥、趙倞和博士后陳敘、姜哲、高志強(qiáng);其中三名博士后人員的研究計(jì)劃均擬根據(jù)本課題所及內(nèi)容予以制定。同時(shí)還擬增補(bǔ)耶魯大學(xué)司馬懿(Chloe Starr)副教授為本課題學(xué)術(shù)委員會委員。

2、課題第一期集中于《論語》和《道德經(jīng)》兩部經(jīng)典,以理雅各(James Legge)的譯文和注疏作為底本,其他版本作為補(bǔ)充。由課題組統(tǒng)一收集相關(guān)文獻(xiàn)。

3、第一期成果擬分為系列論文和工具書兩部分。系列論文由課題組成員分別完成,課題組主辦的《基督教文化學(xué)刊》將為本課題編輯專輯,收錄課題論文和譯文。工具書擬包括“題解”、“錄文”、“譯解綱目”、“譯解對勘”、“英譯本導(dǎo)言匯編”、“版本信息”。

4、本課題學(xué)術(shù)委員會將組織專題學(xué)術(shù)研討會,并與西方“經(jīng)文辯讀”(Scriptural Reasoning)的代表性學(xué)者展開對話。

(二)2011年8月3日至7日,課題組主辦的暑期國際研討班在北京舉行,50多位學(xué)者與會,圍繞“經(jīng)典翻譯與經(jīng)文辯讀”進(jìn)行了專題研討。9位來自不同國家和地區(qū)的學(xué)者作了專題演講,包括斯洛伐克科學(xué)院高利克(Marián Gálik),瑞士蘇黎世大學(xué)韋寧(Ralph Weber),英國牛津大學(xué)羅伯特?恰德(Robert Chard),美國貝勒大學(xué)威廉斯(Daniel Williams),澳大利亞紐斯卡爾大學(xué)玻爾(Roland B?er),臺灣大學(xué)林鴻信,臺灣中原大學(xué)曾慶豹,以及中國人民大學(xué)楊慧林和劉小楓。

(三)2012年8月27-31日,課題組在中國人民大學(xué)蘇州校區(qū)舉辦專題會議暨暑期國際研討班,邀請中國大陸(3名)、英國(4名)、澳大利亞(1名)、香港(2名)、臺灣(2名)的重要學(xué)者提供主題發(fā)言,并圍繞本課題的階段性成果與前來參會的大約50名青年學(xué)者進(jìn)行研討。

(四)2013年7月16-24日課題組在第20屆國際比較文學(xué)學(xué)會巴黎年會上召開以“經(jīng)文辯讀與比較文學(xué)”為主題的圓桌會議,邀請David Ford, Peter Ochs等12位哲學(xué)家一起就相關(guān)論題進(jìn)行探討。

(五)2013年8月5-8日課題組利用第九屆“神學(xué)與人文學(xué)”國際暑期研討班邀請了10位來自英國、美國和香港地區(qū)的學(xué)者繼續(xù)“經(jīng)文辯讀”的話題。

(六)2014年2月26日至3月2日, 課題組主要成員參加在美國南卡羅來納大學(xué)舉行的“中國與西方:1950年以及其后的經(jīng)典翻譯”中美雙邊學(xué)術(shù)研討會,就經(jīng)典翻譯和比較文學(xué)研究的論題和西方學(xué)者展開了進(jìn)一步對話。

(七)2014年3月18-19課題組召開了“建構(gòu)東西方:經(jīng)典的翻譯”國際學(xué)術(shù)研討會,來自美國、加拿大、英國和香港地區(qū)的11位學(xué)者共聚一堂,從翻譯的角度探討“經(jīng)文辯讀”的問題與實(shí)踐。

(八) 2014年5月18-19日課題組與芝加哥大學(xué)神學(xué)院的兩位學(xué)者William Schweiker 和Dwight Hopkins 召開小型研討會,從倫理學(xué)的角度探討經(jīng)文辯讀。

二、國際合作

(一)2012年4月24日,課題組邀請西方“經(jīng)文辯讀”運(yùn)動的主要代表、美國弗吉尼亞大學(xué)資深教授Peter Ochs就“經(jīng)文辯讀的歷史、現(xiàn)狀及未來”在中國人民大學(xué)發(fā)表學(xué)術(shù)演講。4月26日,中央民族大學(xué)又邀請Peter Ochs 和本課題首席專家楊慧林舉辦專場對話,深入討論了不同文化傳統(tǒng)之間的“經(jīng)文辯讀”及其潛在價(jià)值。

(二)2012年6月18-20日,楊慧林及課題組主要成員耿幼壯出席倫敦大學(xué)國王學(xué)院舉辦的圓桌會議,其間楊慧林做主題發(fā)言Scriptural Reasoning and the Hermeneutical Circle,西方“經(jīng)文辯讀”的另一位代表、英國劍橋大學(xué)David Ford教授以及國王學(xué)院Oliver Davies教授予以回應(yīng)。

(三)2012年2月,美國Baylor University Press總編輯Carey C. Newman來訪,商定為本課題出版三部英文論文集,其中楊慧林的Religion and Interpretation已經(jīng)交稿,將于2013年出版,耿幼壯、汪海的兩部文集也正在翻譯之中。

(四)英國牛津大學(xué)出版社出版的A&HCI檢索刊物Religion and Literature派現(xiàn)任主編出席本課題于2012年8月27-31日在蘇州召開的會議,會后商定由該刊出版一期專輯。

(五)西方“經(jīng)文辯讀”的兩位主要代表英國劍橋大學(xué)David Ford教授于2012年10月來訪,美國弗吉尼亞大學(xué)Peter Ochs教授于2013年4月再次來訪。其間將討論2015年春季在美國弗吉尼亞大學(xué)就本課題再度召開對話會議的細(xì)節(jié)。

(六)課題組已經(jīng)與荷蘭著名的“Brill”出版社初步達(dá)成合作意向,2014年9月雙方將對合作的具體形式和細(xì)節(jié)進(jìn)行深入的討論。希望借助這一國際化平臺,本課題的部分成果可以英文出版。

三、《工作簡報(bào)》

本課題自立項(xiàng)以來,已分別于2011年4月21日、2011年10月29日、2012年5月9日報(bào)送三期《工作簡報(bào)》。

目前課題組就“中國思想何以進(jìn)入西方的概念系統(tǒng)”及“經(jīng)典如何走入現(xiàn)代:從《論語》英譯看經(jīng)典翻譯的詮釋學(xué)視域”撰寫《成果要報(bào)》,上報(bào)國家社科基金規(guī)劃辦,作為第一階段研究工作的小結(jié)。

四、文獻(xiàn)資料收集整理

課題組前期工作小組于2011年2月23日成立,落實(shí)《論語》和《道德經(jīng)》英文譯本的信息搜集,河南省社科院丁巍研究員提供了國家社科基金項(xiàng)目“老學(xué)典籍考”(2004年結(jié)項(xiàng))成果中的英文譯本部分。截至4月6日,工作小組完成了一份包括370余種《道德經(jīng)》譯本信息和110余種《論語》譯本的書單,并核實(shí)了大多數(shù)書籍的購買方式。

與此同時(shí),工作小組已將“《論語》和《道德經(jīng)》英譯本書目”和“未找到購買方式的書目”發(fā)給全體課題組成員和參與研究的相關(guān)學(xué)者,以協(xié)助購買、復(fù)印、掃描珍本書籍。

五、下一階段的研究設(shè)想

2011年以來,本課題編輯出版了《經(jīng)文辯讀》、《傳教士與中國經(jīng)典》、《“譯經(jīng)”與“釋經(jīng)”》等三部專輯,為《中國人民大學(xué)學(xué)報(bào)》組織了“經(jīng)文辯讀:中西之間的思想對話”專欄文章,同時(shí)也在其他國內(nèi)外刊物發(fā)表了相關(guān)成果,并與國外相關(guān)領(lǐng)域的代表性學(xué)者進(jìn)行了深入的對話和合作。下一階段擬在文獻(xiàn)整理和比較研究兩個(gè)方面進(jìn)一步拓展。

在文獻(xiàn)整理方面,課題組重點(diǎn)落實(shí)項(xiàng)目的主體成果的出版工作。第一期成果由南京大學(xué)出版社出版,包括:《〈論語〉英譯本序跋釋要》、《〈論語〉英譯本版本題錄》、《〈論語〉英譯本研究文獻(xiàn)》、《〈論語〉英譯本譯注匯編》、《〈論語〉英譯本術(shù)語引得》。此外,課題組將針對第一期工作的經(jīng)驗(yàn)和不足進(jìn)行總結(jié),在此基礎(chǔ)上著手展開《道德經(jīng)》的英譯本匯釋匯校的工作。

在比較研究方面,課題組將通過各種形式的學(xué)術(shù)會議和學(xué)術(shù)交流活動深化與西方學(xué)界的對話:計(jì)劃于2014年9月初舉辦第四屆世界漢學(xué)大會、2014年9月中舉辦中國比較文學(xué)年會分論壇暨暑期國際研討班等,并積極參與國外主辦的學(xué)術(shù)會議。對話將圍繞“中國思想何以進(jìn)入西方的概念系統(tǒng)”這一主題,并希望由此生發(fā)開來,在“經(jīng)典如何走入現(xiàn)代”、“中國經(jīng)典新譯、外譯”、“傳統(tǒng)文化的繼承和發(fā)展”、“經(jīng)典互譯和比較文學(xué)研究”等論題上有進(jìn)一步的闡發(fā)。

注:2010年立項(xiàng)的重大項(xiàng)目主要填寫2012年6月以來的研究進(jìn)展情況。

二、研究成果情況

國家社科基金重大項(xiàng)目“中國古代典籍英譯本匯釋匯校”曾于2012年6月提交中期評估,并以三項(xiàng)“系列論文”作為代表性成果:楊慧林《中西“經(jīng)文辯讀”的可能性及其價(jià)值》(《中國社會科學(xué)》2011年第1期),《經(jīng)文辯讀》、《傳教士與中國經(jīng)典》、《“譯經(jīng)”與“釋經(jīng)”》(《基督教文化學(xué)刊》25輯、26輯、27輯)等三輯?,楊慧林《“經(jīng)文辯讀”與“詮釋的循環(huán)”》、Peter Ochs《經(jīng)文辯讀:從實(shí)踐到理論》等五篇專欄文章(《中國人民大學(xué)學(xué)報(bào)》2012年第5期)。其中第一項(xiàng)成果被列為2013年國家社科基金在研重大項(xiàng)目的55項(xiàng)代表性成果之一。

2012年以后,課題組又在《中國文化研究》(2013年春之卷)發(fā)表一組專欄文章“中國思想何以進(jìn)入西方的概念系統(tǒng)”,在《中國高校社會科學(xué)》(2013年第一期)發(fā)表《文化傳播的雙向考察:名詞的動詞性與動詞的交互性》,在牛津大學(xué)出版的A&HCI學(xué)術(shù)刊物L(fēng)iterature and Theology, vol.28, No.2 (2014)發(fā)表'Scriptural Reasoning' and the 'Hermeneutical Circle',在美國Baylor University Press出版論文集China, Christianity and the Question of Culture (2014)等等。

在系列論文之外,本課題的主體成果也逐漸逐步完成,并將由南京大學(xué)出版社出版, 擬于2014年年底交付出版的第一卷(共五冊)如下:

1.1《〈論語〉英譯本序跋釋要》,李丙權(quán)主編。本冊遴選了1691-2003年間具有代表性的英譯本前言或?qū)д?7篇,力求展示《論語》英譯的歷史脈絡(luò)及不同的翻譯模式,并著重前言和導(dǎo)論本身的學(xué)術(shù)價(jià)值。本冊約30萬字,已交付出版社。目錄如下:

1.4《〈論語〉英譯本譯注匯編》,徐建委主編。本冊按照“錄文”、“綱目”、“對勘”順序編排。以理雅各譯本1960年版為底本,輔以該譯本1861和1893年的兩個(gè)版本;以韋利、蘇慧廉、劉殿爵、西蒙?萊斯、安樂哲的譯本為校本;以《論語》各節(jié)的原文開頭,隨后分錄上述各家的譯文、注釋及其所據(jù)的中文注疏;最后附以本節(jié)譯文的綱目和對勘。預(yù)計(jì)10月份完成并交付出版社。

1.5《〈論語〉英譯本術(shù)語引得》,張靖主編。在第四卷的基礎(chǔ)上,本冊通過預(yù)先設(shè)計(jì)的自動生成檢索系統(tǒng),以楊伯峻《論語譯注》所列詞語為基礎(chǔ),按照關(guān)鍵詞(出現(xiàn)次數(shù))、譯文1(譯者 章節(jié))、譯文2(譯者 章節(jié))、譯文3……順序編排。章節(jié)從楊伯峻本,如1.1表示《學(xué)而》篇第一章。本冊將在7月底完成《論語》六個(gè)譯本的輸入工作;9月底完成注釋的輸入工作。
